My entry for this week Wordless Wednesday is a meaningful short video titled ‘Kindness,’ which is a collaboration between writer Amy Krouse Rosenthal and the Toronto-based design firm Thought Bubble. Before playing the video, you may like to pause it to let it finishes loading up first.
I took this picture of a blooming flower from a plant I have outside my home about two months ago. My mother is the one who is keeping it and I have no idea the name of the plant. For almost 4 years I have never seen any flowers blooming from it. However, about two months ago, it surprised me with this beautiful flower. I just have to take a shot of it with my Sony Cyber-shot camera phone. Yes, this camera phone can produce some decent shots.
There may be question in your head, “Why ‘Life and Death’ in the title?” When I was taking shots of the flower, I noticed a green bud next to it; promising yet another beautiful bloom – another life. One life was moving towards the end and the other was just coming into life. Is it ‘Life beginning at the ending of another’ or is it ‘Life ending at the beginning of another?’
Like ‘Chicken or Egg?’ Frankly, does it really matter whichever come first. Most importantly was that the flower bloomed beautifully for when it was time for it to bloom. Such is the work of nature, to keep the cycle going. The plant does not question what nature has for it. Until the next bloom, the cycle continues everywhere around us, everyday, every hour, every minute and every second.
Over the weekend, my sister and I brought her children to the playground at Pasir Ris Park. The children had a few hour of fun going down different kind of slides. Such simple joy; they just kept going at the slides. And they wouldn’t want to leave if we didn’t ‘force’ them to.
While we were at the playground, this little creature (thanks to Amanda @ MooreBlogLife, I now know this is a Woodland Skipper) landed right in front of one of my nephews. My nephew started to huff and puff at it, like the big bad wolf in the three little pigs. No, it didn’t make any attempt to fly away at all. What a fearless creature, standing up to a creature so many times its size! I just had to take a shot of it with my Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot camera phone.
There are some limitations in using a camera phone to take photo. Go over to Amanda’s site to see her shot of the Woodland Skipper, her shot is so much clearer and you can see much more details of it. The power of a proper camera is truly amazing. My shot is nothing close to her photo.
Pretty soon all the other children gathered around it. I was kind of worry with the fate of the little creature. Fortunately, it knew just when to take flight.
There are times in life when we have to stand up fearlessly to challenges, like the little creature, and yet know when to ‘take flight.’ The challenge is knowing when to do which. Some of us are ever ready to give up when we hit walls and yet others just do not want to let go and move on. When we take time out to reflect in the quietness, our inner voice will reach out to us. We have to learn to listen and to trust that inner voice.
I am glad to say that all children and adults were friendly and no insect was injured or treated badly in this experience.

This is the month of Christmas. If you have read a post I did on Christmas last year, you would know that I grew up listening to the Christmas songs of Alvin and the Chipmunks. I bought the cassette tape version of A Chipmunk Christmas and I listened to the storyline every night while I dozed off to my dreamland.
The story told of Alvin whom unselfishly gave his golden harmonica to a very ill boy, Tommy, in the hope that he would get better. Isn’t this the true spirit of Christmas? A time of giving to our family and friends and especially to strangers we have never met. And yes, I do agree that the spirit of giving should be all year long and not only during Christmas.
Last year what my friend and I had done are to pool some money to buy presents for the poor children in her community. We did not have a lot of money but she and her cousins managed to buy a lot of presents. They had a great time shopping and wrapping the presents. She told me that the children were really happy to receive all those presents. And that made me very happy too. However, sad to say I would not be able to do much of that this year.
