Even more so for a long distance relationship. I loved your blog on LDR's. I am actually working on a LDR blog myself, and am in one. I agree that it is extremely hard and that the computer makes it much, much easier. I also agree that communication is the key. Couples that can't communicate well in or out of long distance relationship hardly ever work out. I feel so lucky that my fiance and I have the computer to communicate. I try to think back to even just a few years ago when Skype didn't exist, and to be honest, I don't think I would have got myself in to a LDR. It is sort of a faith and guts feeling. And a great deal of time, we are the ones who are supposed to make the relationships work. I am so happy to hear about the success story of your parents.
